Green Talks is a series of public debates around environmental topics impacting our daily life

When?

every last Wednesday of the month: The first is Wednesdays 26th February 5:30pm to 6:30pm GMT

Where?

Dakar, Senegal at the Institut des Métiers de l’Environnement et de la Métrologie - IMEM, Mermoz Extension Lot N°26 (VDN près de l’Imprimerie GRAPHIPLUS), Tel : 33 825 29 25 / 77269 30 60

What?

Plastic bags or paper? Not quite that simple ?!? In Senegal, a country overrun by plastic garbage, the fight against plastic bags seems hopeless. Although often a trend-setter among West African countries, Senegal lags behind its neighbours concerning the fight against plastic pollution: Mauritania, Burkina Faso and the Ivory Coast have all adopted laws forbidding plastic bag production and commercialization. Why hasn't Senegal followed this example? Could it be the plastic industry and the thousands of jobs it supplies to the Senegalese economy?

Ecofund and IMEM take this question on, debating with representatives from the Senegalese plastic industry, local government and with the scientist and expert Adams Tidjani, founder of the Institute of Environmental Jobs and Metrology (IMEM) and Professor at the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar (UCAD).

Why?

The objective of the debate is to present as many diverse views as possible, in order to produce real-time solutions that can ensure the buy-in of private sector, local populations and public authorities.

Watch the Clip “Plastic state of mind” made by passionate volunteers on a super tiny budget, on the behalf of Green Sangha! Thanks folks!
